GIOVANNI ALLOVIO
I am a 27 year old cyborg, born and raised in Turin (IT), MSc Nanotechnology student of at the University of Twente (UT, Enschede, NL)
In my previous education I studied Humanities (Liceo Classico Vittorio Alfieri, Turin) and Mechanical Engineering (BSc PoliTO, Turin).
My goal is to explore (nano)technologies through personal inquiries, interconnected experiments, collaborations across various disciplines, surreal explorations, and engagement in projects that merge scientific and artistic practices.
The investigation of (nanoscale) technologies and their implications is conducted through a personal narrative and horizontal approaches, collaborating with scientists, artists and philosophers, with the hope of sparking a debate on our collective responsibility and the social impacts of this rapidly advancing field.
WHY?
We are currently living in an accelerated system, a technologically-based society that is dynamically moving faster, broader, and deeper. Different technologies are becoming increasingly intertwined day by day, leading to an exponential increase in the complexity of their interconnections and fostering mutual development across research fields. Particularly, NBIC Technologies (nanotechnology, biotechnology, informatics, and cognitive sciences) are experiencing substantial growth, capitalizing on this robust intra-communication.
Shouldn't one of the primary duties of scientists and engineers be to ensure public awareness of the societal consequences of their work?
Can art present alternative scenarios in a tangible manner and engage the public before crucial political and ethical decisions are made?
Could the merging of scientific and artistic practices provide an innovative and transdisciplinary methodology to enlarge our collective investigation?
