GOLDSMITHING AT THE NANOSCALE
The inherent fragility of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) presents challenges, especially for artistic practices. Overcoming issues like resistance to liquids and integrating electrically charged nanostructures becomes a delicate balance between fragility and practicality. In 2023, I had the chance to meet two goldsmiths, Federico Vianello (MICROFFICINA, Firenze - IT) and Michael Kortman (Galerie Nouverture, Enschede - NL), who inspired me to delve into the technical challenges of incorporating these materials into jewelry designs.
This merging of scientific and artistic practices aims not only to inspire but also to address societal challenges posed by advancing technology: in fact contemporary jewelry has the remarkable ability to utilize the wearability of objects to stimulate discussions, can be carried to provoke debates and disseminate information through conversational pieces.
The project was done in collaboration with the MNF research group (University of Twente).
“MilliMicroNano” will be showcased at the Brussels Jewelry Week 2024 (April 2024) in the MAD Gallery for the exhibition “Particles” - “Un Fiore” will be presented at the Premiere at OROAREZZO (May 2024)
