STUDIES TOWARDS MATTER
COLLABORATION PROJECT with Christos Costantinou and Pablo Koenig
In collaboration with Christos Costantinou and Pablo Koenig, our research, supported by CrossTic, delved into intriguing questions about how humans can experience the nanoscale and how individual atoms respond to external stimuli. Using a Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM), we embarked on exploring the nanoscale. The culmination of our project resulted in an immersive installation that invited individuals to step into the nanoscale, inspired by the original paper "In touch with atoms". This immersive experience allowed us to interact with atomic structures, offering new and alien interactions to explore.
Tunneling technologies demonstrated a possible pathway to establish interactions and expand our connection with small entities, enabling us to ask questions such as "how do atoms react to drugs?" and "how do atoms dance?"
Through a 360° projection showcasing STM images of single carbon atoms, we provided a unique perspective and experience, complemented by a DJ set at the opening of GOGBOT 23.
The installation was featured at the M.O.T.F. - Museum Of The Future from 1 April to 29 June 2023 in Enschede, NL, and at the GOGBOT 2023 festival from 7 to 10 November 2023, also in Enschede, NL. This research installation was made possible with the support of Cross-Tic and the PIN research group at the University of Twente, NL.
